Canadian News feeds are reporting that in the town of Mapou, on the Haitian border in the south west/central west regions along the DR border there are 2000 reported deaths due to flooding in this one town. Deaths are reportedly high on both sides of the border. News footage only showed the Haitian flooding by air. Most footage concentrated on swamped crop fields. Can this be confirmed.
Would like also to have the reliabe contacts for the international efforts for aid monies to be sent to the area for use to help the survivors. At present the DR Red Cross seems to be the only contact for individuals here in Canada to approach with donations via our Canadian Red Cross system.
I personally earge anyone who would like to help in relief efforts to contact the Canadian Red Cross branch in thier district and to consider helping the people of both the DR and Haiti during these tragic times.
The DR and Haiti are in our thoughts and prayers tonight as the death toll mounts.
