Can anyone here identify the items on the Coat of Arms?

There are two distinct tree branches (for a lack of a better word). I thought one might be Tabacoo, but I don't think so. There's also what appears to be a Book? Since a Crucifix is above it, I'm thinking it represents the Bible? Or their constitution? For the historians out there: who designed it?

I think it's a lovely Coat of Arms!

If I recall correctly from 5th grade at Don Bosco, the book is a bible representing the Dominican people's faith in God, along with the Holy Cross.
On the left an olive branch representing the new Republic's hope for peace, and on the right a palm leaf representing the fauna of the island.
The red, like in the flag represents the blood shed by patriots in the battle for freedom. The blue represents the sky, and the white cross, also represents belief in God.

For true information on the final coat of arms visit the Numismatic Museum of the Central Bank. There are several similar versions circulating, but only one definite version.
