While playing with my Treo 650 smart phone, I located a web site that plays music and programs from all over the world. The site is http://www.shoutcast.com

It is free and provides live streaming of various bandwidths. What I found particularly interesting, is that you can provide your own live streaming for free. You simply download the shoutcast software, registar, and you have your own internet broadcast station.

VOIP (Voice over IP for the non-techies, or Telephone over the internet for those who do not qualify as even a non tech) has allowed communications directly from the DR to the states or Canada, but many IP providers are taking control of the action and want to charge you to use the service....

If you do not mind someone listening in to one half of your conversation, you could set up shoutcast on a computer in the DR and one at your home, and basically talk VOIP for free.

Just a thought I am playing with...

Back to the main point... if you miss Dominican music, there are several channels available on Shoutcast. I listen live on my Treo cell phone all the time. It is alot of fun...
