(CBS) LOS ANGELES Dominican Republic President Leonel Fernandez is scheduled to begin a two-day visit to the Southland Friday, meeting with business and political leaders, seeking investment for the island nation.
Fernandez is scheduled to arrive from San Francisco Friday, and meet with filmmakers, telecommunications executives and toy manufacturers, then have a dinner in Beverly Hills with filmmakers, including Brett Ratner, whose credits include directing "X-Men: The Last Stand," an aide said.
On Saturday, Fernandez is scheduled to attend a lunch with Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo and business leaders, where he will discuss programs intended to reduce crime in the Dominican Republic and
improve trade with it.
Fernandez is also scheduled to throw out the ceremonial first pitch before Saturday night's Los Angeles Dodgers-Pittsburgh Pirates game at Dodger Stadium.
The visit to California is part of a 14-day trip for Fernandez, which will also include stops in Taiwan, South Korea and Japan.
