Any alternate ideas would be appreciated. I know American Airlines flies directly into La Romana from Miami. What are the options for getting to Casa de Campo from Las Americas in Santa Domingo? Are there puddle jumpers? Are there shuttles? Thanks in advance.

We are going in February from the Midwest.

you can use public transportation cheaply (gugua , bus) or you can rent a taxi ( more expensive but quicker , safer, and more comfortable).

WHY??? If you can afford Casa de Campo in season, it stands to reason that you can afford the tickets to La Romana. The comfort, the relaxation, the luxury of just getting off the plane, into a vehicle and in five minutes or so you are THERE!!
The drive from Santo Domingo is tedious to say the least, dangerous due to traffic snarls and high speeds and not that appealing.

If you can afford Casa de Campo, Helidosa may also be in the budget. They can provide charter helicopter service throuhout the island.
The phone numbers are: 809-688-0744, 809-552-6066 and 809-552-6069.

Flying to La Romana or Casa de Campo is not as easy is it seems for many of us. Unless you live in Florida there is a good chance that you will have to overnight somewhere either coming or going. SDQ, on the other hand provides many more options for arriving in La Romana. As mentioned, taxies, buses, and other public transportation is readily available from SDQ.

The best bet is to fly into SDQ and rent a car. It is only a 1 ? to 2hr drive and you will want to have a car available to get out of Casa de Campo and see the other local sites.

Taking Charlie's observations into consideration, it seems that the best and safest bet for this couple is to hire a taxi for the trip.
There are some good taxi services there, if memory serves, and one, at least has an email address....?? Rafael??? Help me here guys...

Anyway, driving for the first time visitor is never recommended. You might be lucky, but you might not, and the consequences of a ruined vacation because of a fender bender are too great to be worth the risk.

So hire a taxi, and leave the driving to others.
