i dont want to get into an argument about how AA is operating in the dominican republic but I read in a website that soon AA will be ordering some 787's. I know that very soon all of there A300 have to go out of service because they are too old. I am wondering when is this going to happen? When will AA retire their A300 fleet which mostly serves the Carribean and Latin American countries. Also what type of aircraft will replace the A300? Hopefully it is a bigger aircraft so that passangers have more comfort. (If it is a bigger aircraft how will an airport like STI handle it? Because of its runways size)

Well, based on information from Boeing, news, etc... The Boeing 787 "Dreamliner" won't enter into service until 2008, so I think there will be more A-300's flying to DR. Plus you have to add that if they enter into service in 2008, we don't know when AA will receive their first one and where they'll fly it to and when.
Based on what I know, the closer thing to the A-300 in AA's fleet is the Boeing 777-200, which would be too expensive to flight to DR. Dominican Republic is a 3 1/2 hrs flight from NY and the 777-200ER can flight way more than that. Also, the engines are a lot more powerful than those on the A-300, that's why AA won't use an airplane like the 777 on such a short route.
Our best bet is wait until they retire the A-300's and wait for a combination of 757's, 777's (during high season) and hopefully 787's in the future.

Regarding the Bus.....

I see 3 of these babies everyday and we always wonder if AA will replace them soon.......

As Flakko very acurately pointed out the only thing that comes close to the bus in passenger capacity is the 777-200er that AA has which is VERY difficult to see on these routes. Why???? the high quality, long, very expensive routes to Europe and asia where AA makes the big bucks with the 777. I spoke to one of my friends that works for AA and they don`t seem to be changing the A300 as soon as many people want them to go away......

If you don`t see the A300 in our Dominican routes espect to see the 767-300 instead........ although i would hope for the 777........

The 787 i checked in boeing`s web site..... 2008 beginning of service for the 787-800 2010 for the 787-900 & 787-300,and as flakko pointed out AA is rumored to be in the mix for a firm order of airframes......

Well
Saludos

You might find more answers on www.airliners.net

But like some have stated here the retirement of this airplane is not anytime soon. Some people on the above site were speculating that it might be 2008. But, WHO KNOWS?

American wont used a 757 or 738 to fly from JFK to Santo domingo or Santiago, its much be bigger than that it might be a 767-300 or 777-200 for cargo issues.
