san jose de mendoza or mirador norte?

My wife and I will be staying in the capital for a few days with her family. We have the choice of staying with her uncle who lives on the east side of the city in Villa Carmen in San Jose de Mendoza. The other option is to stay at her aunt?s house in Mirador Norte on the west side of town. What can you tell me about these two areas (crime, proximity to stores, restaurants, attractions) and which would you recommend for us to stay at. I would appreciate any information you could offer. Thanks.

We just got back from our trip. I agree with all of you. We stayed in Mirador Norte and I felt very safe and it was a nice area. We drove through the east side where I could have stayed also and it definitely looked more run down and intimidating but I probably would have been ok there too. Thanks for the advice.
