I have the current list of legal holidays, but the "Overview of Dominican labor law by Fabio Guzman" does not clearly state the payroll requirements for holiday pay.

If an employee takes the holiday off, are they paid for the day? If they work, do they get paid extra? Can I insist they work on the day of the holiday? Can I insist they take the holiday off?

Employees are entitled to a paid day off for all public holidays that do not fall on the employee?s normal day off (usually Sunday (Art. 165 of the Labor Code).

Holiday work must be paid at a 100% premium.
