We are staying at an all-inclusive resort and have noticed a few people mentioning tipping of bartenders etc. What is the common practice for this? Do we tip as we go along or give them something at the end of our trip. Also, what are the best things to tip the maids - have noticed some threads stating they would rather have pens, pencils etc. than money? OUr first visit to DR so any advice would be grateful

Tipping at all inclusive resorts is not necessary but is very much appreciated. I was in PC with my girlfriends in July and we would usually tip at least $1-$2 US each time we ordered drinks from the bartenders at the pool or resort disco (there were 6 of us so $1-$2 US isnt a whole lot). We also tipped when we ate at a la carte restaurants and always left a couple of dollars after eating at the buffet and we also always left a tip for the cleaning lady in our room and never had a problem getting extra towels, water, mini bar stock etc...When you're at the resort youll definitely appreciate the amount of work that the staff do and how they go out of their way and go the extra mile so if you appreciate great service...a small tip goes a long way. Remember to bring lots of $1 bills.

Have a great time!!

tip, tip and tip some more

People get paid very little, do your heavy tipping as soon as you get there and the service will be great! Its the best way To Insure Proper Service.

Tipping is like sex, do it early in your trip and OFTEN!

Also, covert your money to DRPs, the cambios don't like doing exchanges for chump change.

A $50DRP bill is about $1.50USD today, so $50DRP will get you a stiffer drink on the next round.

$100DRP per day should get you extra towels.....and your generosity will get you remembered fondly by the staff!
