Watch out you may get arrested....Just kidding. The only place you can't drink in The DR is church (...if they are having a service). Public places are OK.

It's frowned on in buses and in gua-guas too . . . and I wouldn't carry an open beer into the bank with me.

I see people drinking on the beach and outside of colmados, but in the cities, I really don't see people walking around with beers in their hands.

If you are in a tourist area that's one thing but I can imagine the looks you'll receive walking around in Santiago

Domnicans and Haitians in Juan Dolio get arrested if drinking in the street. Tourists don't. You cannot take any bottles onto the beach - that's why Presidente now sold in cans.

Thats why I love it here I bring a presidente EVERYWHERE! Not in church like suarezn said..
