I once saw a book published sometime in the mid-nineties about how there are a few families in the DR who are aristocrats/oligarchs, in that they control so much business decision that the country becomes quasi-feudal. It was written in Spanish, and the author was a Dominican journalist (who subsequently got into all sorts of trouble as a result). I think it was called something like "the fourteen families who run the Dominican Republic", or words to that effect. The families were the usual suspects, the Bermudez, Leon Jimenez, Armenteros, and so on.
Does anyone know about this book, or who the author might have been?
