Was just wondering if construction is still ongoing at this resort, and if so what rooms would you reccomend we look for. We will be leaving in 2 weeks and wanted to contact the resort to reserve a "good" room.

Any other comments about this resort would also be appreciated. Thanks

I was checking the place out in January. There was construction of a new restaurant going on facing the beach. I was told it would be done be mid January but as a builder myself, I did not buy that one.
I would however be inclined to believe that that part could be done by now.
At that time they were also adding a whole row of new units on the West side. From driving by on the main road I still seem to see construction going on there, HOWEVER, that may also be the construction of the condos in the new development West of Oasis Grand Marien.
Right now they are in full construction on what used to be part of the parking lot in front of the entry (facing the main road). I would suppose that this should not affect vacationers INSIDE the hotel.

I would advise to call and have somebody there confirm the state of extension and remodeling works.

i was there in february of this year and it was the best time of my life. the construction is not even noticable unles your super picky. our room was right beside it and i didnt even realize it was beside it untill the third day. also this hotel is not in the playa dorada area (its like 5 minutes away) which is great because its easier to get into the city and the beach is nicer then it is at hotels like gran ventana and barcelo. snacks and drinks are 24 hours which is great, ive been to the dominican 3 times, this hotel was BY FAR the best one

Just got back from there. 4/18 to 4/25
The construction is still going on big time. 8Am to 8Pm. 2 new blocks of rooms. Construction to the main dining area. Hammers and skill saws going on right beside you. Men taking a break in the shade so close to could hand them food. The beach resturant- Mangos- was having a PT deck installed while we were there. More hammers and skill saws while we ate.

We are members of the vacation club there. We wont be going back any time soon. Not enough pool space as it is now....add the 2 new blocks of rooms with people = lots of ****ed off people. The beach area is pretty crowded now too. Dont know where all these people will go.

Tip:How to get a shaded table area by the pool.
Get up at 7:00 and put your stuff on the chairs you want for the day. IMPORTANT: Hang out there until 8:00. Security should leave your stuff alone by then. I saw the guy take several towels and bags and books and take them away while I sat there until 8. The pople werent hanging out with the stuff. He even asked me if the stuff beside me was mine. Chairs with shade are a premium.

The photo guys ....beware, one is nice and the other has a personality of a coconut. We couldnt get our photos because during our appointment to view and order the photos, the electricity went out again. Happened several times when we were there. The power came on 20 min. before we were to be picked up to leave. Wife went to the photo hut and the bald headed manager shooed her away like he couldnt be bothered to sell her our photos. They spent some time with a family shoot at the beach...lots of time spent doing that and we have no pictures of it.

The vacation club people are pushing the Oasis Canoa in La Romana. Maybe we will try that one next if we go back to the DR soon.

Stayed there two years ago. We could not get our own room on arrival and the room manager met us to discuss 1 night's inconvenience. We would be rewarded with an upgrade to master suite for our family of 4.
A wedding party was there and a request had been made to accommodate an elderly couple who were going to be surprise guests and could they have our room for one night.

After being showed the rooms we would get we had a very easy decision to make and upgraded. We got two bedrooms with an interlinking living area, Three bathrooms and three ground floor balconies. We were directly opposite the Santa Fe Grill (Mexican) and could see the pool and sea from our balcony. We were right also handy for the pathway to the beach and beach buffet area which had a 24 hour bar!
Could not of had a better location and the landscaped gardens in front of our balcony were lovely.

It is a fantastic place and the only reason we did not rebook is we would have to fly with monarch who are rubbish.

Only fault is the birds which get in to the buffet area. This appears to a problem else where, but remember where you are and this complex is very easy on the eye and staff are excellent.
Chocolate friends if they are still there are great and tell sexy richard the scottish madonna (and apparently bill clinton look alike), is asking for him.

If you can put the buffet area behind you will have a great time.
We did.

Or stated another way:

If you keep your behind in mind don't eat the buffet.
I did.

:cheeky::classic:

Very good.

My wife was ill one day after the night after we had ate in the buffet. Reckons it was chicken which was slightly under cooked. It had a sauce over it and was difficult to determine. It was the only thing that the rest of us did not have.

It did not stop us from going back but we were careful.
The pasta station at a lunch time was excellent as was the omelete in the morning. At least you new it was fresh and being cooked in front of you it was going to be okay.
The fruit was very good and covered.
You could also get a carvery in the evening from the same station.

We enjoyed the Mexican most. The Italian had a restricted choice.
Pancakes at the theatre around about 4 pm should not be missed either.

The pool at this hotel is pretty big, especially compared to hotels like gran ventana. I was with 3 other people when i went and had no problem finding chairs together at the pool. and we never got there any earlier then 11. i dont think the hotel could of changed that much since feb. 08.

Agreed. Plenty of room in the pool even when activeties are being held.
Basicaly three different pools with an island in the middle.

Particulary liked the soothing music played early in the morning for folk wanting to do streching exercise.
Never did get the name of it.

I just returned from 7 days at the Grand Oasis Marien, 3 at the Oasis Hamaca (Boca Chica) and retuned for the final four nights at the Marien. You'll be happy to know that the seafood restaurant is now open and renovations throughout seem to be moving along nicely. Here are some pics from the Marien. Sorry I can't give you a review of the food as I'm a vegetarian. Nice chairs, tables, atmosphere though. Interesting to note here that the seafood restaurant in Oaisis Hamaca is not part of the AI package, you pay for your selections. However the one at the Marien is part of your AI package. Maybe the menu is different? I noticed the pasta restaurant menus are the same in both the Oasis hotels and great service at the Hamaca.

Since it is the low season, the Marien was almost empty. I had room 2112 right on the main floor facing the beach across from the horseshoes, bocce and children's club house. I think I would have enjoyed the second floor more away from the eyes of guests, staff, security who were passing my balcony often along the walkway.

I can't report on the progress with the casino constuction, but I think the Marien will be one of best hotels in POP once all the work is completed.

Just got back from the Marien (house not fully finished but close, maybe nextime lol)
Have stayed there on 5 other occasions and loved it even during construction. After the incident this time we will never go back!!!!!!! Upon checking out we were told we owed a bill for 395 pesos. Asked what for as we had used a friends cell with orange card for the time we had been therewe were told it was not for calls but instead I was told it was for the peanuts we ate from the mini bar. Never touched anything in the mini bar. The guy that fills the fridge was asked to bring the empty can to checkout as I refused to pay. Upon his arrival we pointed out the can had never been open, lid had a cover similar to a can of pop. When the can was shook there was nothing in it. The guy proceeds to take the plastic lid off the bottom and shows us the bottom had been opened with a can opener (like I carry one with me). I must say at this point my husband left and had enough time to drink 5 rum at the bar while this went on. The police were called after I was threatened and told them go ahead, and I must say the were very nice and were well aware it was a scam!! Our Dominican friend arrived to pick us up and after saying he would be held responsible I did pay, but will never return. They then asked for the empty can I had at this point in my possession but were well informed in some chosen words I PAID FOR IT and where they could go. During the episode another couple were also nailed with a tab they swear they didn't accumulate. Makes me curious as to how often this is done. Is it worth it to lose regular customers for 395 pesos? I guess so. Now that I have vented I will say it is a excellent resort but please be aware or better yet have them remove the fridge or at least empty it during your stay except for the free stuff.

Thats to bad that happened to you, that is a very nice resort for the money..that was probably just a scam by a few bad employees..Did you talk to the manager? If you did and he allowed the resort to lose the business of a repeat customer for 390 pesos, then he should not be in charge of such a popular resort. have you contacted the corporate office with your complaint?
