I currently live in South Beach Miami and will be visiting S.D next weekend. I need some help with the following,

1. A large hotel/casino, upscale close to the night life.
2. A good reference for where to go at night to get the best feel for the women and club/bar scene.

I have crawaled these boards but haven't exactly found the answers just yet and any help would be great..

I would suggest searching the forum - there is heaps of information on where is good to stay in the Capital. :)

If you particularly want to stay at a Casino, I would say the Renaissance Jaragua or the Hilton, both on the Malecon. You are a short distance from Zona Colonial where there are many bars and restaurants.

I would highly recommend the Sofitel de Ovanda in Zona Colonial. It does not have a Casino though. It is a beautiful hotel and the service and staff are wonderful.

I don't know of the Aurora, but do know it is a fair distance from the night life. I am sure it is very nice, but if you are only here for a weekend, I would think you would something in/around Zona Colonial.

Good luck and enjoy your weekend in the Capital.

The Jaragua is probably the best bet for a mix of action, price, proximity to the Colonial Zone and it's Casino, but none of the Casino Hotels on the Malecon allow you to bring unregistered guests back to your room.

By the way, the other main area for nightlife, where the more upscale restaurants and clubs are located is called Naco...and to some extent, also Pantini...they are more in the center of the city. A good hotel that's central to everything, but not really walking distance to anything, is the Marriott Courtyard...and they allow you to have guests.
