I am looking with websites (If possible) a hotel on the El Conde or within walking distance from there. This will be my first trip in staying in Santo Domingo but will only be here for a couple of days. Thank you in advance. Any suggestions?

Conde de Pe?alba Hotel

Nice hotel. I've stayed there and it is very pleasant. It has a nice restaurant on the ground floor which is perfect for people watching and it is right where you want to be.

Leave the hotel, take a few steps and you are right on Calle El Conde.

You are better off calling for reservations-I wouldn't do it via the internet.

As for the rooms, the best are the ones that face the street-they have balconies and are very airy and bright. They have rooms in the interior with no windows, which I guess are good for privacy and you don't hear the street noise, but it depends on what you want.

Thank you all for your inputs. Unless there are other hotels nearby, I am now narrowing it down to two places and they are Hotel Conde de Penalba and Hotel Palacio. I am leaning toward Hotel Conde de Penalba, it looks comfty.

My brother gets robbed on hotel Discovery by two hotel employees. Over 2000 dollars in cash and properties. My brother filed a complaint to management but they said they trusts their employees so practically told my brother he was a liar. Filed a case with Politur and local police. My brother's wife (a dominican) later learned that hotel manager made some gifts to local police.

Conde de Pe?alba rooms are beautiful, colonial style, small but confortable. Mercure is good too, better prices if you reserve online.

I agree [thanks to BERZIN for the recommendation]! The hotel is quiet, peaceful, guest friendly, very inexpensive [i paid 1500 pesos for a room per night] and yes close to everything. Colmado on the corner, ATM machines walking distance, walking distance to the Malecon and the casinos, good times! :)

I am all set and ready to go as I am leaving two weeks from today. Thank you folks but I decided to stay on the north coast once again but I will be back again in February and will spend more time in SD. Conde de Penalba is on top of my list, I do like the hotel and it is exactly where I want to be. So much to do, so little time.
PS-Hotel Monumental is not bad at all for that price and they have Wifi access.
