From DR to Jamaica...still no connection?

I spent so much time searching and I still can not believe there is no way to get from DR to Jamaica (either by ferry or by plane), except through Miami or Panama for hundreds of USD. Is that really so? :paranoid:

It does not have to be a direct connection but should be cheap.

Could anybody help, please?

I checked with them and they did not have regular flights. They were planning to open some in the future, though.

They offered me the following:

Jet Cessna II : returning the same day US$ 8,600.00 returning another day US$14,800.00

Navajo bimotor: returning the same day US$ 5,800.00 returning another day US$ 9,900.00

Not very backpackers friendly prices, aren't they?! :D

So, looks like we are gonna stay in DR a bit longer and then go directly to Mexico (somehow).
