I have noted that La Vega is a rather large city. What does it have to offer as far as sites, night life and safety concerns.

La Vega has a great Carnival festival, especially the one on the last Sunday in February. It is famous all over the country.

It seems like any town in the Cibao-very busy during the day and quiet at night.

They have a couple of clubs that of course get so packed you can't move, and so loud you can't hear anyone speaking. The Dominicans that I mingled with at these clubs, both male and female, were young, very elegant and good looking.

They have a big cathedral that gets packed on Sundays, and the location makes for a good spot to catch an ice cream at Helados Bon and people watch.

The best hotel to stay in is the El Rey.

Its unbelievable how there are towns in the DR, like La Vega, that for all practical purposes have zero international tourism and yet, they look so much better than Hig?ey or Puerto Plata. The latter is improving, but Hig?ey needs help pronto!

La Vega is nothing special.. FEB is the best time... and is to wild..

Im going to DR in March... I will avoid feb at all cost now...

I was there last FEB and that carnival is to big and out of control..

I have a House in LA VEGA btw.. Is "OK" .. Night life is not all that.. Plus, there is nothing out but trouble at night...

the problem with La Vega is that the citizens from their DONT support local investment, they prefer to go to Santiago or San Franciso de Macoris; like the song goes "I don't know why..."

nice pics

It's been a while since I was in La Vega, but from the photos it looks much more pleasant than Higuey. Thank the FSM for the shortcut through the cane fields!

Can someone give a little more information on the communities inside of La vega, as well as jarabacoa. This may sound silly but i thought jarabacoa was inside of La vega, but then i heard there were two la vegas. Can someone shed a little light?

Jarabacoa is a town in the province of La Vega. The city of La Vega is the capital of the province of the same name.

Las Vegas is a discotec in Santiago
La Vega is a province which is like 20-25 minutes away from Santiago

I have to agreed, there isnt too much to do except for the carnival in february and i think its too wild.

Jarabacoa is part of La Vega, a city of beauty and calm..people go there to do rafting in the river and going on you reach Pico Duarte if you like camping and climbing mountains. Many travel agencies do excursions there.

good luck

The many nature-related activities available in Jarabacoa make it an amazing place!
