How can I get from the airport in Santo Domingo to Santiago?

I'm visiting Santiago at the end of December, but AA airfare (at $530+) is just too expensive. So I'm thinking of flying to Santo Domingo through Jetblue and finding the cheapest way of getting to Santiago alive (bus, taxi, horse).

Any help is appreciated.

CaribeTours, Santo Domingo. Taxi from Las Americas to SD, CaribeTours. Fare to Santiago one way in a comfortable air conditioned Busscar, about RDP 200.00

There are many other options as well, but I have not used them.

Caribe Tours C. Por A.

Wow, that's way more than I thought. I payed 280 pesos from SD to Cabrera. Looks like they really get the Santiago passengers.

It may well be less. It's just an estimate, hence the ~.

I paid RD$275 on Metro about three years ago and prices have gone up since then. Caribe Tours is a little bit cheaper than Metro, but I still guess the current fare is over 300 pesos now. There is a fares section on their site but the links aren't working for me now.

I just noticed I wrote "payed" instead of "paid". How embarrassing for the Rey :(

Not close to$10....more like RD$250 for Caribe Tours, RD$270 or so for Metro.
Jeez, I can remember when RD$5 would go both ways...damn,

Well, I stand corrected! I would have thought the fare would have gone up since my last Metro trip to Santiago circa 2005 - to that meeting at your house, HB, if you remember.
BTW still can't get the links on the site to work.
