After returning from the United States where he had traveled for medical treatment, long-time Azua deputy for the Dominican Liberation Party Julio Peña Brito passed away. He had served as deputy for the PLD for four terms, since he was first elected in 2006. He had registered to be the Azua deputy in the 19 May 2024 election.
He was a high-ranking member of the Dominican Liberation Party. He was a lawyer with masters studies in electoral politics from the Universidad Catolica de Santo Domingo and Political Sciences from the UNPHU in Santo Domingo.
