This is Easter Week, or Holy Week in the Dominican Republic – from Sunday, 24 March to Sunday, 31 March 2024. For many, it is a time of reflection, but for most, it is a time to meet with family and friends or to go to the beach or local swimming hole at a nearby river or waterfall.

Minister of the Environment Miguel (Mickey) Ceara Hatton has issued a call to avoid doing damage to the nation’s beaches and rivers. Refuse and other rubbish, makeshift lodging or rafts, always left abandoned, clutter up these areas and result in the degradation of the natural environment.

Ceara Hatton reminded the citizens and visitors that Resolution 0050-2023 establishes that it is a crime to abandon anything material or structural that is not part of the natural environment on a beach or river bank. This is So Important to all of DR !!! This their Best Resource, the Water, River and Oceans.
Not just for Locals getting Disease and Infections from this and making them sick.
However, if Tourists keep getting sick, as the are, Tourism will dry up so dam fast.

Asking Dominicans to respect their natural environment is like handing a bottle of rum to an alcoholic and asking him not to drink it.
They can't resist.
For Dominicans tossing a bag of trash from the car is a status symbol, first you have a car and at least enough money to buy snacks or a greasy meal in Styrofoam to throw out.
