So I'm talking to a Haitian friend of mine in Puerta Plata and it seems that the foreman from their job just heisted the payroll of 37 million pesos which was back wages for 150 people, including my friend's 22 days of back pay. It appears the owner/operator of the site entrusted the entire payroll to one dude and it was too much temptation for him.

I had already scheduled a trip up there this Friday to see him, his wife, and one of my grandsons but this really puts a damper on the trip. It will be interesting to see if this makes the news in PP. It's unbelievable how someone could do that. I would imagine that most of the workers are Haitian and have absolutely no recourse.

That's a lot of money. It works out to almost 250,000 pesos per worker. Who makes that much money per month? Has the foreman been arrested?

That's what I was told and I didn't do the arithmetic, which I should have. My friend lost 22000 pesos, or about 3.5 weeks of work. This is at 1000 pesos/day.

So yea, 150*22000 = 3.3 million pesos. So I'm thinking he meant 3.7 million.

Thanks for the correction. But it's still a lot of money for the workers.

Yes, still a lot of money and makes you wonder why the foreman hasn't been arrested(?).

It's the company that the foreman worked for that owes him the money. He should go see that labor board here.
Get the crooks to chase other crooks? Besides, if they are working illegally, what would the board do for them?

Sounds like the boss and the foreman have a little plan in place to F the workers again.

I cant speak for other places but the labor ministry here in Jarabacoa has gone after employers that ripped off their illegal Haitian workers.
okay I respect your opinion over there but I really don't see it to me everybody is working hand in hand...
