The fact that FIFA recognized and approved the DR as a host for this awesome event just shows how the country is advancing in so many areas. This creates great opportunities for young ladies, in particular, our young ladies here in the DR. Anyone who watched the last Women's World Cup would have witnessed some amazing football and the English women's team (The Lionesses) were so much better than the mens team when they were competing in the World Cup! It wasn't that long ago that the majority of people you saw kicking a ball around in the DR were the Haitians as they are huge football fans but over let's say the last 10 years so many Dominican kids have taken to the sport and there are now some great clubs all over the country. My daughter played at one of the local clubs in Sosua and she had so much fun, especially when playing away games. Football will never be as popular as baseball here, but around the country you see more and more football pitches and it is good to see kids of all ages, both boys and girls, getting out there and enjoying other sports.
