That would depend on your budget, but if I were to live there and didn't wanted to have a car and still be able to do all my things like grocery shopping
and stuffs like I would live in the colonial zone, because it is very Bohemian and you get to meet all kinds of people there. The other areas
unless that you have a car is a pain in the neck to libe.

Dogs and sometimes cats.

I forgot Roosters my ex nemesis. I had to buy ear plugs at one point when living in Sosua plus most places my son and his family have lived in the capitol.
I was never a fan of the cock fights until those bastards kept me awake nights.

I lived in the Capital for 3 yrs at first i loved it because it had everything.. but than the traffic, noise , and crime, too many people just got to me. I move out east about a month ago so far I love it no traffic. When i need excitement I will take a ride into the capital . For your budget you can live any where you want....I would look for a place with cameras , door man.

Noise an issue? Forget the capital. Rent in New Juan Dolio Monday to Friday you can hear a pin drop. For that price right on the beach. Do primary shopping in San Pedro de Macoris. Electricity excellent, internet, cable. You will get a lot of work done and your body and soul will thank you for it. 45mins away from Santo Domingo, 45USD by Taxi in most of the time you get there in 35mins. If you have location options you can think out of the box.

At the intersection of mid-life crisis Juan Dolio. Seriously, New Juan Dolio begins on the road where Banco Popular is, and continues to the end of the road where the restaurant ConCon stands. Encompasses everything in between. You can see this using Google Maps.
