Senate approves law that exempts the import of cameras for security systems from taxes
The Senate of the Republic approved in first reading a bill that exempts from taxes the import of digital cameras used in the country's security systems, to combat crime.

The Senate of the Republic approved on Tuesday in first reading a bill that exempts from taxes the import of digital cameras used in the country's security systems , to combat crime.
The piece, which had 22 votes in favor and one against, seeks to exempt for 10 years, starting from its promulgation, the tax payments that must be made by those who import recording cameras intended to contribute to security and protection.
According to the recitals presented in the document, video surveillance systems are one of the "preventive and dissuasive" tools that contribute to the fight against insecurity.
Residences, companies, country properties, condominiums, grocery stores, supermarkets, hotels, bars, restaurants, schools, colleges, clinics, hospitals and other related sectors are those who will be exempt, through the General Directorate of Customs (DGA), from the tax payments required in the acquisition of this type of video cameras.
TYPES OF CAMERAS
The legislative piece deliberates bullet, dome, box and “PTZ” cameras, which can be installed in both indoor and outdoor environments, for 720p, 1080p and 4K video recordings.In addition, video recorders with recording and audio capacity of no more than 32 channels with analog, digital and network (IP) inputs.
Power supplies for analog and digital recorders with up to 32 channels are also added to this list of tax exemptions.
This law would modify chapter 85 of Law 146-00 on Tariff Reform and Tax Compensation, which refers to digital security cameras and their components.
Likewise, it will reform any other legal provision that is contrary to this bill, as dictated by the fifth article called “Modification.”
SECOND EXTENSION
On July 16, 2012, the Congress of the Dominican Republic created Law 171-12, which aimed to facilitate the acquisition of video surveillance cameras, through the exemption from payment of all types of import taxes, for a period of 10 years.This period ended in 2022 and consequently, these technological equipment will not currently benefit from any tax incentives.
