Public Health Minister Rafael Sánchez Cárdenas, said in his 6 May coronavirus press briefing that “the best medicine for the epidemic is keeping physical distance.” He urged people only go out for essential needs. The Dominican public health minister said: “Life after Covid-19 has changed.” The Minister warned that the World Health Organization has said the epidemic “is not a matter of days and we cannot count the days before we will be able to party again,” he said.

According to Coronavirus Bulletin #48 of the Public Health Ministry’s Department of Epidemiology, the Dominican Republic has 8,807 confirmed cases, 327 new confirmed cases and 362 deaths. There are 1,598 patients hospitalized, including 134 in intensive care units.
