The sister of the nation’s founding father Juan Pablo Duarte has been rightfully placed in the National Pantheon. Rosa Protomártir Duarte Díez was honored 133 years after her death that occurred in 1888. She played an outstanding role in the Trinitarian Society started by her brother that conspired and achieved the national independence against Haitian dominance in 1844.

A solemn ceremony took place to exalt Rosa Duarte to the National Pantheon.

Duarte Institute president, Wilson Gomez Ramirez highlighted the virtues of the heroine, specifying that “this exceptional woman played important roles in the societies created to liberate the homeland and create the Dominican state.”
