President Luis Abinader named Dr. Claudio Alberto Brito Gómez the new Deputy Minister for Collective Health at the Ministry of Public Health. He replaces Dr. Ivelisse Acosta, who had resigned. Brito Gómez was appointed by Decree 279-21 dated 27 April 2021. Diario Libre reports that Public Health Minister Daniel Rivera says that Dr. Acosta did not give reasons for her resignation.

At the time of his appointment to the post, Dr. Brito was the deputy minister in charge of the Pharmaceuticals, Food and Hygiene Products Agency (Digemaps) at the Ministry of Public Health. Before his appointment to the Ministry of Public Health, Dr. Brito had lived most of his life in Puerto Plata. His biography indicates he owns the Farmacia Popular.
