Team Dominican Republic defeated Team Venezuela in the Tokyo Olympics qualifier taking place in Puebla, Mexico, 22-26 June 2021. The tournament will decide the sixth team to participate in the Olympic baseball tournament. The DR (ranked 10th) is competing against Venezuela (ranked 8th) and the Netherlands (ranked 9th) for the slot.

A five-run rally in the seventh, led by Juan Francisco, Diego Goris and Johan Mieses, gave the Dominican Republic a 10-7 win over Venezuela in the opening game of the tournament.

The game was exciting. Team DR was losing 5-6 in the top of the seventh when Francisco delivered a two-run home run that put the scoreboard at 7-6.

The winner of the qualifier will join Japan, Israel, Korea, Mexico and the USA, teams that have already qualified for the Tokyo Olympics.
