Reflecting the mid-December to mid-January Omicron variant spike in the Dominican Republic, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a Level 4 Travel Health Notice for the Dominican Republic on 24 January 2022. The alert tells US citizens to not travel to the Dominican Republic.

The United States is the most important source of tourists to the Dominican Republic. US tourists have been filling Dominican hotels and account for the majority of future bookings.

“Your risk of contracting Covid-19 and developing severe symptoms may be lower if you are fully vaccinated with an FDA authorized vaccine,” establishes the CDC.

The announcement by the CDC comes at a time when the Omicron variant seems to have leveled off and the cases and positivity are gradually declining.
