The National Drug Control Agency (DNCD) announced on 3 April 2022 the seizing of a shipment of 1,129 packages presumably of cocaine at Multimodal Caucedo Port in eastern Santo Domingo. The drugs would have a street value of US$70 million.

Following intelligence reports, anti-narcotics agents, accompanied by military and canine units, searched dozens of containers for export in the terminal’s verification area. Then, as part of the process, they were inspected by X-ray machines. Subsequently, in the presence of a deputy prosecutor, 33 packages of the substance were found inside, wrapped with adhesive tape after a more rigorous search.

The shipment would have been sent to the port of Rotterdam, Netherlands, camouflaged in a load of footwear.
