President Luis Abinader was in San Pedro de Macorís on Monday, 30 May 2022 for the inauguration of the El Soco Photovoltaic Park project in the municipality of Consuelo. The solar energy park is injecting 50MW into the national grid, thus helping to alleviate the increase in energy prices, as well as contributing to greater energy independence.

“My government is placing special emphasis on energy derived from renewable sources. As an example of this, I will tell you that in the year 2021 and part of 2022 we will manage and sign contracts for the installation of photovoltaic electricity projects for an additional 620 MW,” said President Abinader at the event. He said this is more than double the number of solar projects that had been signed in more than a decade.
