President Luis Abinader appointed retired Major General Juan Manuel Méndez to the Medical Emergencies Agency of the National Health Service (SNS), that groups public hospitals. This is an honorary position. Méndez had been acting as honorary director of the Center for Emergency Operations (COE) after years on the job during the Medina administration

The Medical Emergencies Agency is part of the National Health Service (SNS) and plays a fundamental role as one of the response institutions of the National System of Emergency Attention and Security 911.

President Luis Abinader did not appoint a new director for the COE. The appointment is expected to be forthcoming soon given that the hurricane season has just begun.
