On the day commemorating the Solemnity of the Assumption, 15 August 2022, the Dominican Roman Catholic Church closes the Altagracia Virgin Jubilee celebrations for the canonical crowning of the image of the Virgin of Altagracia. The Virgin of Altagracia is regarded by Catholics in the Dominican Republic as the Mother and Patron of the Dominican people.

On Sunday, 14 August 2022, a special mass was held at the Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Altagracia in Higuey presided by the special envoy of Pope Francis, Monsignor Edgar Peña Parra.

The image of the Virgin of Altagracia was then sent to Santo Domingo in the afternoon for veneration from the Catholic faithful on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of her canonical coronation in the Dominican Republic.
