The Instituto de Reproducción y Ginecología del Cibao (IREGCI) announced on Monday, 5 September 2022 the birth of the first baby born alive in the Dominican Republic through the techniques of Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) and PGD (Preimplantational Genetic Diagnosis). The baby was born at the IREGCI clinic in Santiago city. Santiago is making a name for itself as a destination to consider for medical tourism.

The baby was born on 7 June 2022 in excellent conditions to a Dominican mother and a foreign father who had had multiple problems conceiving.

Reproductive biologist, Dr. Ramon A. Espinal Diloné, the embryologists Lic. Mercedes Ramírez and Dr. Ana Marizán and the international consultant Yadira Díaz were part of the medical team of the IREGCI team that on Monday announced the successful birth.
