Dominican poet and essayist Soledad Álvarez was awarded on 4 October the XXII Casa de América Prize for American Poetry for her work, “Despues de tanto arder.”
The jury praised Alvarez for being capable of using intimacy as its own space from which to observe our world ravaged by wars and pandemics and to reflect on feminism, the family or the servitudes of the couple.
Alvarez will receive a EUR5,000 cash prize and Casa de America will cover the cost of publishing her work.
In 2022, Soledad Alvarez had received the National Literature Award. She also won the Siboney Essay Award for her book, “La magna patria de Pedro Henríquez Ureña.”
As a poet she has published the books “Vuelo Posible” (1994), “Las estaciones íntimas”, National Poetry Prize 2006 and “Autobiografía en el agua”, National Poetry Prize 2016. She is also the author of essays and as an anthologist she has published...
