The Winter Dominican Professional Baseball Championship began on Saturday, 15 October 2022, with the Tigres del Licey landing their first win against the Escogido Lions in the Quisqueya Juan Marichal ballpark in Santo Domingo. The game went to 14 innings and ended with a score of 10-2. The Licey put in a surprising eight-run rally in the 14th inning after six hours of play.

Six teams compete from October to February as part of the Dominican Professional Baseball League (Lidom). The teams are: Toros del Este, from La Romana; the Estrellas Orientales, from San Pedro de Macoris; the Tigres del Licey and the Leones del Escogido, both from Santo Domingo; the Aguilas Cibaeñas from Santiago de los Caballeros and the defending champions, the Gigantes del Cibao, from San Francisco de Macorís.
