Former many times president of the Senate, Amable Aristy Castro passed away after suffering a respiratory failure/ heart attack. He had just participated in the inauguration of the Marlin Shopping Center in Punta Cana. When he was taken to the Clinica Perozo in Higuey he was pronounced dead on Sunday, 4 December 2022. Aristy Castro is described as a chieftain of Higuey for the remarkable power and influence he wielded on his native province over his career in politics. He was 73 years old.

Aristy was a messenger at the Banco Popular in Higuey after which he began his career when entering the Partido Reformista in 1976. Six years later he won his first deputy seat in Congress.
