The Ministry of Defense announced the Abinader administration has begun to comply with commitments made to the troops decades ago when former President Hipolito Mejia sent troops to Iraq at the request of the United States government.
The Ministry of Defense (MIDE) initiated the payment of per diems for RD$69 million the Armed Forces has pending with Dominican military personnel sent to Iraq in August 2003 and January 2004.
The soldiers participated as members of Task Force Quisqueya I and II, sent to Diwaniya, Iraq for periods of four and six months, in August 2003 and January 2004, respectively.
The Dominican troops were sent to help reconstruct Iraq in the midst of the military support operation, with patrols, surveillance and intelligence tasks in the Arab country from the base of operations in Diwaniya at the time.
