The employees of the Santo Domingo Metro system have accepted an around 20% pay increase and other benefits and desist from the strike called for 17 January 2023. The Office for the Reorganization of Transportation (OPRET) worked with the Ministry of Public Administration to avert the strike.
The pay raise will bring conductor wages from RD$38,000 to RD$44,000, depending on the employee’s position. The deal includes payment for back pay owed, overtime pay and the guarantee of no reprisals for worker activism. The gatekeepers and other employees will also get wage increases.
