A mission of earthquake specialists from the United States Geological Survey (USGS) has visited Santiago and the northeast of the country to identify paleoseismological exploration points for the project “Capacity building for active fault studies, Dominican Republic.”
The United States Agency funds the project through its International Development (USAID) and its Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (BHA). The local counterpart is the National Office of Seismic Evaluation and Seismic Vulnerability of Infrastructure and Buildings (ONESVIE), together with the Vice-Rectory of Research and Innovation of the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM).
