The Dominican Republic won the gold in the 24th Central American and Caribbean Games men’s basketball tournament. The DR defeated Mexico 89-72 in the finals held on 5 July 2023.

El Nuevo Diario reports that this is the fourth time the DR has won the regional basketball championship. The DR had won in 1998, 2002, 2014 and now in 2023. It had won bronze in 2006 and 2010.

The DR made 41% of the long-distance throws to the basket.

To make the finals against Mexico, the DR defeated its arch-rival Puerto Rico 91-84. That game was extra exciting because the Dominican team came from behind, reducing a 10-point lead in the last quarter to win.
