The Chamber of Deputies approved declaring Monte Plata province as an ecotourism demarcation. The declaration will facilitate developing conditions for promoting tourist activities, ensuring the conservation and sustainable use of natural resources and for the economic and social development of the southern province.

The deputies approved the project that was initially submitted and passed in the Senate by senator Lenin Valdez of the ruling Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM).

Monte Plata is known for its popular Salto Alto de Bayaguana, a natural oasis composed of three waterfalls with crystal clear waters. This is one of the most visited ecotourism spots in the entire country, despite how difficult it is to access due to road conditions.
