Competing for the Dominican Republic, Jonathan Ruvalcaba won silver on Saturday, 21 October 2023 in the one-meter platform event during the Santiago Pan American Games. The event was won by a fellow Mexican, 19-year old Osmar Olvera.

Ruvalcaba is a Mexican nationalized Dominican. He is married to a Dominican from Santiago de los Caballeros. He lives and trains in León, Guanajuato with his coach Francisco Ruedas.

The medal in diving is a first for the Dominican Republic in the Pan Am Games.

Ruvalcaba competed against 20 divers from 11 countries.

Since 2019, Ruvalcaba chose to represent the Dominican Republic in international competitions after he considered he had been unfairly excluded from the Mexican team to the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
