The Licey Tigers disappointed Dominicans losing the Caribbean Series pennant to the Tiburones de la Guaira of Venezuela. It would have been the Licey’s 12th pennant. The Licey was the defending champion.
The Venezuelan team defeated the Dominican team 3 to 0 in the game that took place on Friday, 9 February 2024 in Miami, Florida.
It is the first title ever for the Tiburones de la Guaria. Venezuela had not won the tournament since 2009.
As reported by MLB, the playoff game was played before a crowd of 36,677, the largest in Caribbean Series history with more fans at the loanDepot park than those that attended the 2023 World Baseball Classic final between the US and Japan.
Dominican Robinson Cano was voted the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.
