The executive director of the Dominican Port Authority (Apordom), Jean Luis Rodríguez announced the start of works to turn the San Pedro de Macorís into a modern terminal so the Spanish ferry company Balearia can operate weekly ferry trips to Mayagüez in Puerto Rico.

New infrastructure will improve the conditions of the ports in both San Pedro de Macoris and Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.

The head of Apordom, Jean Luis Rodríguez, highlighted the positive outcome of the US$100 million investment. “This work is first a vision of President Luis Abinader, an advance for the entire region and the country,” he said.

For his part, Juan Adolfo Utor Martínez, president of Balearia, maintained that the new service represents a key driver for the progress, socioeconomic development and connectivity of both the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. Balearia has more than a decade...
