18-year old backstroker Elizabeth Samira Jimenez Garrido made the cut to compete for the Dominican Republic in the swimming competitions during the Paris Olympics this summer. She trains and studies at the University of Houston in Texas, USA. Before receiving a scholarship to the University of Houston, she trained at the Club Arroyo Hondo in Santo Domingo.
Javier Núñez also qualified in swimming for the Dominican Republic.
So far, 52 athletes are on the Dominican athlete list for the Paris Olympics.
