On Tuesday, 9 July 2024, at least in the capital city, people braced themselves for an afternoon of torrential rains and flooding. This is the tropics. Yes, it rained, but it was short-lasting and city streets did not flood nor were tow trucks called in. Albeit, it is better to be prepared than to lament.

Now the Weather Office (Onamet) is forecasting that the passing of a tropical wave that is moving swiftly westward across the Windward Passage and the influence of an upper-level trough will continue to dominate our atmospheric conditions. These weather systems are responsible for scattered showers, thunderstorms, and isolated gusts of wind across our territory through the night.
