Sports Minister Francisco Camacho announced RD$15 million (around US$250,000) incentive for gold medal winners, RD$10 million (US$167,000) for silver and RD$8 million (US$133,000) for bronze in the Paris Olympics. The Dominican delegation is 57-athlete strong (33 men and 24 women). Camacho made the announcement during the Monday, 15 July presidential press conference, La Semanal. The Olympic Games will be held 26 July to 11 August in Paris, France.
The athletes who made the Olympic Games team have already received a RD$100,000 cash award.
The Dominican Republic will compete in 13 sports: track and field, boxing, diving, swimming, soccer, artistic gymnastics, judo, wrestling, taekwondo, weightlifting, skeet, volleyball, equestrian dressage.
