The Ministry of Public Health that is heading efforts to monitor alerted outbreak of anthrax in Haiti says the disease is treated with antibiotics. The country’s Defense and Public Health departments have taken several measures to control the entry of the disease from Haiti.

Speaking on the issue during the weekly press conference on 22 July 2024, President Luis Abinader explained there are no health statistics in Haiti as that country’s public health system is collapsed. Nevertheless, he said locally the Ministry of Public Health is keeping close tabs on the situation as it could affect the Dominican Republic working in coordination with local intelligence teams.
