At the closing of their term for 2020-2024, Chamber of Deputies legislators approved a new regulation requiring lawmakers that start on 16 August 2024 for the 2024-2028 legislature, to attend at least 80% of legislative sessions. The rule aims to enhance accountability and ensure greater legislative participation.

The penalties for not complying, though, are weak, and much the same as what has existed in the past.

Under the new regulations, deputies who fail to meet the 80% attendance threshold will face public exposure and potential sanctions. Their names will be published on the Chamber’s official website, and their cases will be referred to a disciplinary committee for evaluation.
