As part of the 90th anniversary of bilateral relations between the Dominican Republic and Japan, President Luis Abinader received the president of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Akihiko Tanaka at the Presidential Palace. JICA has behind it 60 years of cooperation with the Dominican Republic.

Tanaka also participated in the ceremony commemorating the Japanese immigration to the country, celebrating 68 years since the start of immigration.

Tanaka has been president of JICA since April 2022.

The visit of Tanaka is a follow-up to the visit of Vice President Raquel Peña to Japan in April 2023. At the time, the Vice President met with JICA president Tanaka in Tokyo.
